If We Had Only Known

By Ann Hale, CFRE, Director of Development

Alaska Pacific University recently received a surprise bequest of $150,000 from the estate of a woman who we had never gotten to know. Of course, we appreciated the gift immensely. It revealed a gracious and generous person. And the gift will certainly help us to accomplish our mission and better serve our students.

But we feel somewhat cheated because we never had the opportunity to express our gratitude to her for such kindness. We were unable to tell her how much her gift would mean. If we had only known, we could have said, "Thank you."

And so we encourage our friends and alumni to notify us when they include APU in their wills and estate plans. Then not only can we express our appreciation, we can also make sure that you are kept up to date with all of the developments and happenings here at APU.

The Carrillon Society was established to recognize those who include Alaska Pacific University in their estate plans through vehicles like wills, retirement plans, insurance policies and more. Members receive many nice benefits and an invitation to attend an annual recognition dinner in the fall.

Have you named Alaska Pacific University in your estate plans? If so, please let us know. If not, I would be happy to provide you, confidentially, with the all of the information and materials you need to include charitable giving in your overall estate plan. Just contact me anytime at (907) 564-8346 or ahale@alaskapacific.edu There is never any obligation.
