IT'S MUSIC TO OUR EARS - THE WALDRON CARILLON RINGS AGAIN!

Thanks to the tireless work and support of many, the Waldron Carillon -- a treasured landmark on the Alaska Pacific University campus -- is playing beautiful music again.

In 1972, Arthur F. Waldron -- a major supporter and early pioneer in the founding of Alaska Methodist University -- made a gift of the Waldron Carillon Tower to the University as a memorial to his wife Edith P. Waldron. For almost thirty years it rang throughout the day and night for all to hear, but became inoperable a few years ago due to its age, weather, and regular wear and tear.

In the summer of 2004 work to make the needed repairs to the Carillon began in earnest. Thanks to a maintenance fund established by the Waldron family, the University was able to install a new sound system, replace the underground cables and wiring that bring power to the Carillon, and replace the outdated music system and keyboard with a newer, state-of-the-art computer operated version.

Final repairs to the Carillon were made last December, and now it can be heard again - chiming each half hour or playing songs on holidays and special occasions - in honor of the Waldron family and their dedicated support of Alaska Pacific University.
